Lawrence Crouch Iii

February 4, 1950 — October 13, 2022

Lawrence E. Crouch III (CRFE), 72, passed away on October 13, 2022, at his home in Watertown, WI

Lawrence was born on February 4, 1950, in Henderson, Kentucky. He married Beth Hirsch and they enjoyed 37 years of marriage, and were blessed with 4 children.

He graduated From USI in 1984. His love of the outdoors and his time in Scouting as a youth led to employment with the Boy Scouts of America, were he worked until his retirement in 2016. During his 32 year employment, he earned many awards, including 6 national marketing awards between 2007 and 2009. He achieved the status of Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) in 2004, a recognition realized by only 5,000 development professionals world-wide.

In the communities where he lived, he remained active with Kiwanis and held positions as Secretary, Board Member and Lieutenant Governor.  He served as Alderman in Bloomington, Illinois and while there served on the Governor’s Task Force on Substance Abuse and was in the first class of the Leadership McLean County Program.  He also was extremely proud to serve as a Scoutmaster, helping sixteen youth attain the rank of Eagle Scout.

He continued volunteering after his retirement, and had part in founding Heritage Days in Momence, IL and more recently in starting an oral history documentation program at the senior center in Watertown, WI.

Larry was an avid cook, spending hours reading cookbooks and trying new recipes. He was always willing and excited to create new and enticing meals for gatherings of friends and family. His reading of cookbooks, though, extended to all manner of books. He was always eager to read the newest offering from a favorite author, and to expound its many virtues or failings to everyone. He enjoyed all manner of music, looking for poetry and connection in the lyrics and notes of every genre.  His love of the outdoors extended to gardening, and he greatly enjoyed growing and canning his own produce, especially when he could serve it in a meal he created.

As a father, Larry enjoyed sharing his passions with his children, and has instilled in them a love of good music, good food, and good books. He was proud of his smart, creative and industrious children, and always found opportunities to share their successes with others. As a grandfather, Larry enjoyed finding and sharing new games, lots of candy and, of course, snuggles.

He is survived by his children: Katie (Timothy) Kaltenbach, Sadah (Jaqueline Miller) Crouch, Meagan (Jon Kidd) Crouch, Malcolm (Kellie Baine) Crouch, 6 grandchildren: Molly, Crevan, Thomas, Daragan, Millicent, and Theodore and siblings Suzanne (Larry Downs) Crouch, and Roxanne (Brad) Frick.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ed and Mary (Dewes) Crouch, and sisters Nancy and Shannon.

The funeral is to be held at St. John the Evangelist Church in Daylight, Indiana at 10:30AM on November 2nd. Visitation will begin at 9 AM preceding the service.
