Kay Uhlhorn

October 11, 1938 — August 12, 2020

Kay Kathryn Uhlhorn (nee Kaddatz)

age 81 of Watertown, WI went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 12th, 2020.

Kay was born on Tuesday, October 11, 1938 in Watertown, WI, the daughter of John Albert & Anita (Heidi) Kaddatz.

She graduated from Watertown Public High School with the Class of 1956 and remained active in organizing high school reunions for over 50 years. She greatly enjoyed her social outings with her friends, “The Culver’s Girls” and the “Lunch Bunch” who have been great friends for decades.

Kay married Pastor Ronald Uhlhorn on June 4, 1961 at St. Johns Lutheran in Watertown. She faithfully served alongside Ron in WELS congregations in the following cities: Charles City, IA; King of Prussia, PA; Pardeeville, WI; New Ulm, MN; Blantyre, Malawi, Africa; Layton, Utah and several vacancies.  She spent her remaining 2 years as a resident of Heritage Homes where Ron had served as Chaplain until his death.

Kay had a deep love for God’s creation in nature which she passed on to her children and grandchildren through many camping trips, nature walks and African safaris.  This passion led her to actively begin and serve Lutheran Girl Pioneers in several congregations.  She enjoyed her years as a school bus driver keeping an eye on her children as they walked to and from school, working at Lambrecht’s gift shop in New Ulm, MN, working with Alpha Life Resources, singing with church choirs and being a loving Grandmother to 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Her faith in her Savior Jesus was evident to all who knew her.

Kay is survived by her 5 children: Debbie (Pastor Joe) Dietrich, Bylas, AZ; Pastor Wayne (Daneen) Uhlhorn, Vista, CA; Ann (Pastor Virgil) Hanson, Sherwood, WI; Kathy (Stefan) Felgenhauer, Lusaka, Zambia and David (Rachel) Uhlhorn, Manitowoc, WI.  17 grandchildren: Debbie’s: Matthew (Emily) Rothe, VA; Jacob (Jessica) Rothe, CA; Hannah Rothe, SD; Luke Rothe, WI;  Wayne’s: Jennifer (Eric) Melso, TN; Marissa (Tyler) Campbell,CO; Ryan Uhlhorn, CA; Michael Uhlhorn, CA; Ann’s: Aaron(Kassy) Hanson ,WI; Grace Hanson, WI; Miriam (Brian) Hopkins, WI; Kathy’s: Louisa, Benjamin, and Anna Felgenhauer, Zambia; David’s:  Josh, Caleb, and Emily Uhlhorn, WI and 7 great grandchildren: Julian & Gabriel Rothe, VA; Natalie Melso, TN; Nolan, Jordy and Chandler Hanson, WI.
