Joseph Houston Jr.

Joseph P. Houston Jr., 74, of Waterloo passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on April 20, 2019 at Rainbow Hospice Center in Johnson Creek.

Joseph was born on February 11, 1945 in Tampa, Florida the son of Joseph and Eleanor (Bowman) Houston. He married the love of his life Barbara Hudson on November 11, 1967 at St. Jude’s Catholic Church and the couple enjoyed 51 years of marriage.  Joseph was a graduate of Central High School in Madison in 1963. After high school Joseph attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he earned his Master’s degree in 1975. He spent his career as a principal and educator in different high schools in the area before retiring in 2000. The things of real value in his life were his faith, family, friends, and to those he dedicated his career in education. He also valued opportunities to use athletics as a positive vehicle. Joseph was loved by many and will be dearly missed by those who were blessed to have known him.

Joseph is survived by his wife, his children Joseph Houston III, Sarah Houston and Brady (Kendra) Houston, 8 grandchildren: Joseph IV; Tyler; Garrett; Connor; Avery; Noah; Addison; Bella and his nephews Justin and Scott. He also had two AFS children Remco Wortel and Monika Iseli. Joseph is also survived by a number of other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Gemma Grace Houston and his 3 siblings.

A memorial service for Joseph will be held on Friday April 26, 2019 at 11am at Holy Family Parish in Waterloo with Fr. Jorge Miramontes presiding. A visitation will be held at the church at 9am until the time of service.
