Harvey "Wimpy" Luther

Harvey C. “Wimpy” Luther, 97, of Waterloo passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, January 20, 2020 at Rainbow Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek.

Harvey was born on August 26, 1922 in Waterloo, the son of Herbert and Myra (Martin) Luther. He married the love of his life Bernice Haseleu on February 14, 1979 and the couple enjoyed 31 years of marriage before her passing in 2010. Harvey proudly served our country in the United States Army for 3 years. He worked most of his life as a postal carrier in Waterloo. He was a member of the Waterloo VFW, Ducks Unlimited, and he and Bernice were the head of Meals on Wheels for many years. Harvey was an outdoorsman; he loved fishing, hunting, bird watching, and working in his garden. He was an avid sports fan, especially following Wisconsin teams and playing on the bowling league in Waterloo. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to have known him.

Harvey is survived by his children Katherine Setz; Cheryl (James) Setz; Patricia Phillips; Steven (Julia) Haseleu; and Julie Haseleu-Jurss. 13 grandchildren: Kristin (Scott) Setz-Williams; Jonathan (Amy) Setz, Bryan (Marlecia) Setz; Craig (Kerri) Setz; Keith Setz; Korey (Matt) Holzhueter; Kevin Phillips; Heather (Cory) Feest; Angela Phillips; Aislynn Haseleu; Samuel Haseleu; Jadyn Haseleu; and Kolton Jurss. 12 great-grandchildren and his sister Shirley Sailing. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and his brother Marvin, sister Lorainne, and son-in-law Jeffrey Setz.

A funeral service for Harvey will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, January 27, 2020 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Waterloo with Rev. Chris Esmay presiding. A visitation will be held at the church from 12:00pm until the time of service. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Washington Cemetery in the Town of Portland.
