David Gehler

David W. Gehler, 80 of Waterloo passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at Highland House.

David was born on July 19, 1938 in Johnson Creek, the son of Fred and Katherine (Gericke) Gehler. He married the love of his life Joyce Rettschlag on August 24, 1963 at St. John Ev. Lutheran church in Waterloo and the couple enjoyed 55 years of marriage. David was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church and Lake Ripley Country Club. In David’s free time he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, traveling, and attending the grandkids activities. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be dearly missed by those who were blessed to have known him.

David is survived by his wife Joyce, daughter Jan (Brian) Patrick of Sun Prairie and son Kirk (Amy) Gehler of Waterloo. Four grandchildren: Luke (Rosemarie), Autumn (Nathan), Ryan, and Kaitlyn. Two great-grandchildren: Michael and Matthew. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Fred and Robert, and sisters Joan McBride and Lois Molzner.

A celebration of life for David will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Waterloo at 11:00am with Rev. James Adomeit presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Washington Cemetery.

Memorials in David’s honor to the St. John’s building fund and Rainbow Hospice Care would be appreciated.
