Bernice V. Zimmerman, 96, of Watertown, WI was called home to heaven on January 4, 2020 at Park Ridge in Watertown. Bernice was born on April 6, 1923 in Lebanon, WI to Otto and Leona (Krueger) Uttech. She attended St. Peter’s Church and school, and later attended Watertown High School. On September 8, 1951, she was married to George Arthur Zimmerman in Dubuque, IA. They were married for 53 years.
Bernice worked at many past Watertown businesses like the Main Café, L&L Luncheonette, Herro’s Tot & Teen and retired from Kline’s Department Store. Her passions in life included sewing, knitting, gardening, reading, playing piano, pool, dominos, puzzles, working out, singing, and spending time with her family. She was a 45 year member of St. Mark’s choir and particularly enjoyed participating in their Christmas concerts. She was also a member of the Red Hatters and the Wethonkita Club. Bernice later became an avid Brewers fan and enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and other parts of the world including: Spain, Portugal, and Ireland.
She is survived by her son Thomas (Patricia nee Schneider) Zimmerman of Naperville, IL, daughter Lynn Costanza of Elmhurst, IL and daughter Lisa (Mark) Lessner of Watertown, WI. Grandchildren include Ryan (Kiara Beckman) Zimmerman, Sarah (Todd) Rogers, Jacqueline (Joe) Morton, Alicia (John) Broek, Jessica Lessner, Amanda (Fiance Trevor Schlicht) Lessner, and Joseph Lessner. Great-Grandchildren including Sienna and Aviana Rogers, Adalyn and Leo Morton, Archie and Odette Broek, and Finley Zimmerman. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, stepfather Albert Zweig, brother Oliver Uttech and Great-Granddaughter Riley Ann Zimmerman.
She inspired her family with her tenacity and love of life to the end and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 9:30am to 11:00am on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, funeral service will be held at 11:00am with Rev. Karl Walther presiding. Burial will follow at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia.
