Mokane, MO – Wallace Raymond Arthur Fischer, age 95, was called to his eternal rest on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Riverview Nursing Center in Mokane, Missouri. His earthly journey is done and his eternal life has begun. On Christ the Rock his faith was founded and peace with God was firmly grounded on Him who gave His life for all and set us free forever from the fall!
Wallace was born on September 2, 1930 to Raymond and Grace (Kaul) Fischer in Clyman, WI. He was welcomed into God's family through Holy Baptism on September 25, 1930 at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown, WI. He enlisted in the army in Watertown at age 17 and attended the U.S. Armed Forces Institute. Wallace served in Korea as a Squad Leader with the 1st Cavalry Division, 5th Cavalry Regiment from July 1950-June 1951.
When he returned stateside, Wallace married Caroline (Steckhahn) on September 13, 1952. After he earned his Master Plumber license, he and Caroline started the Fischer Plumbing Company in Watertown. They worked together for 29 years until his retirement in 1992. During this time he also was a founding member of the Watertown Police Reserve, serving as Captain for 5 years. As part of his duty on the Reserve, he directed traffic on Friday nights for many years, having learned how to do this while watching MPs in Tokyo, Japan during his service leave. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 3709 and served as Commander for a number of years.
In October 1992, he and Caroline retired to Mountain Home, Arkansas for one year. In 1993 they bought property outside of Houston, MO and had their home built where they enjoyed their new home and community for almost 30 years. They loved visits from family and friends for many years. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Marshfield, MO. Caroline preceded him in death on August 9, 2020.
Wallace is survived by three children: Fonda (Doris) Fischer, Faith (Rev. Jonathan) Rimmert, and Frayne (Linda) Fischer; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mrs. May Burgy; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Lloyd, Raymond, Jr., Marvin, Donald, Joseph, Melvin; six sisters; Gertrude Werth, Lorraine Freson, Charlotte “Dolly” Sterwald, Dorothy Umland, Marilyn Bachler, Eleanor Crish, two brothers-in-law, John Burgy, and Raymond Doering; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Pearl Terrazas.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Pederson-Nowatka Funeral Home at 215 S. 5th Street in Watertown, WI at 11:00 AM. There will be a visitation from 10:30 to the time of service. Wallace will be laid to rest following the service at Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown.
