Ronald Stokes

July 24, 1931 — August 29, 2012

Ronald G. "Mouse" Stokes 81, of Waterloo passed away on Wednesday Aug. 29, 2012 at the Highland House in Waterloo.

Ronald was born on July 24, 1931 in Watertown the son of George and Mayme (Kaercher) Stokes. He was a 1949 graduate of Waterloo High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Georgia and Germany. He became a Radio Technician Instructor and participated in the Honor Guard post parades while in the service. He married Kathleen Niesen on Feb. 15, 1955 in Waterloo. Ronald's employment included farming on his family farm, school bus driving for White Bus Service, Waterloo Water & Light Co., transferring to manager of the Waste Water Treatment Department. He retired from there but continued additional employment with Dunneisen Excavating for ten years. Ronald was a member of Waterloo United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Waterloo Fire Dept., and was one of the original members of Dr. Garman's rescue team. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #661. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his harvest with friends and relatives. He was always eager to have a ready smile and helping hand. He traveled extensively throughout the Western United States with his wife. Ronald enjoyed hunting, boating and snowmobiling with friends. His passion in recent years was gardening and his lawn and flowers.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years Kathleen. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter Kim Rochelle.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Waterloo United Methodist Church.
