“Daddy’s coming to Bethesda on a horsey”

 Robert Francis Legg

Born in Chicago, IL, on August 16th, 1943, to Frances and Robert Legg. He proudly represented both his father's and mother’s names. He had a sister Janet and a brother George. In 1966 he was admitted to Bethesda and transitioned from Bethesda’s main campus to his group home on Hyer Drive in Jefferson. In 2017, the Bethesda program transitioned to ResCare, where he was cared for and loved by his support staff. On April 24, 2025, he was admitted to Rainbow Hospice, where he was provided care and comfort from the staff there, specifically his nurse, Sarah – who shared her love for horses with him. He was followed for nearly 20 years by his MCO case manager, Shari Schoenherr, who served as a strong advocate and support for his needs. Tom Shields, also played a big role in Bobby’s life. He provided guardianship for over 30 years - as a strong advocate, support system, and stability in Bobby’s life. Bobby always light up when Tom came for visits. Bobby had a strong support system throughout his life and was truly loved by all.

Bobby’s ResCare support staff remembrance:

“I’ll never forget the days we shared watching the sky together or a movie. Bobby always knew how to stay “cool” or as he’d say “cooooo”. He was able to make everyone in the room light up. I’ll never stop missing him in my heart, but I’m happy to say he’s on his chariot to heaven where he may finally rest peacefully. We love you Bobby” – Nick Key

“Bobby never failed to greet me everyday when I arrived to the home, with his contagious smile and big old “helllooooo”. Spending sunny days with Bobby on the back porch, listening to his favorite songs, and coloring for the holiday decorations are things I will always cherish. Thank you for becoming a part of my family and life. Your contagious smile is something we will forever cherish. You knew how to turn our frowns into smiles, keep us on our toes, and help to make a house a home. I love you Bobby, and will never forget you or the impact you’ve made on so many.” Daraka Eigenberger

“Bobby was truly one of a kind. Although he was non-verbal, he spoke volumes to everyone around him. He had a way of making his presence known – always involved in the action around the home, patrolling his housemates and staff in his wheelchair. When he would find a good spot to rest, he’d kick his feet up – on whatever was nearby, sometimes even the dining room table. It was impossible not to laugh. I’ll never forget his smile; it literally went from ear to ear. It was the kind of smile that made it impossible not to smile back. I’m so thankful for the time I got to spend with Bobby, and for the impact he’s had on my life. It brings comfort to imagine him reuniting with “daddy” – but this time he gets to do it on a horsey. As my favorite catchphrase of his will always be, “Daddy’s coming to Bethesda on a horsey.” Instead of the typical cardinals representing lost loved ones, mine will be a “horsey” for remembrance of our Bobbert.” – Gabby Maier

“Working with Bobby for 14 years has filled my heart with happiness. Most days, he spent following me around, room to room – pointing, poking, and laughing. He was always teasing others while giggling. We shared lots of laughs through the years. I am going to miss him, but never forget him.” – Sam Sivadas
