Waterloo

Richard Wedeward, 89 of Waterloo, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born on November 21, 1936, the eldest child of Howard and Evelyn (Zimbric) Wedeward of Waterloo, WI. A lifelong member of the Waterloo community, he attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Waterloo High School. On April 14, 1956, Richard was united in marriage with Lois Robertson at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The couple shared a remarkable 70 years of memories together with their 3 children, their spouses, and one beloved grandchild. Richard was a respected employee of Miller Brewing/Briess Malt at Waterloo Malting for nearly 40 years. Known by many as ‘Shot’, he always had a story to share, a prank up his sleeve, or comfort to offer in hard times. He was the first person to call when you needed help, no matter what the project. Richard especially enjoyed vacationing around the country with Lois, golfing, fishing, and deer hunting at the cabin in northern Wisconsin. His friends were loyal and lifelong, and added greatly to his enjoyment of an active and purposeful life. He will be remembered by many, and missed more than words can say.

Richard is survived by: his wife Lois; children Timothy (Ann Balm-Olson) Wedeward, Teresa (Michael) Prattke, and Theodore (Rhonda Reals) Wedeward; granddaughter Emmeline Prattke; and siblings Thomas (Rose) Wedeward, Daniel Wedeward, Susan (Donn) Gurney, Jeffery (Mary Lynn) Wedeward, Kristine (Andrew) Chitwood, and William Wedeward.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, sister Kathleen (Sam) Dunning, and Sharon Deneen.
