Richard J. “Dick” Pickhardt, 89 of Town of Portland, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 13, 2026, at his home.
Dick was born on March 12, 1937, in Columbus, WI, the son of Richard and Mary (Brodkorb) Pickhardt. After graduating from high school, Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army where he was well-respected and enjoyed his time. In his free time, Dick enjoyed being outside, whether it was fishing or taking trips to Castle Rock with the Boy Scouts where he served as a Scoutmaster. In the mornings, he could often be found walking around town, sometimes up to 5 miles, and in the afternoon, Dick would spend time in his garden weeding and planting flowers. Dick was a avid Milwaukee Brewers fan and liked to watch the Green Bay Packers play as well. Above all else, family meant the most to Dick and he instilled a strong work ethic by his example in his children. He was known as a man who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. Dick will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
Dick is survived by: his children Stephen Pickhardt, Daniel (fiancé Deanna) Pickhardt, Thomas Pickhardt, and Krissy (Cliff) Herber; grandchildren Christopher (Katie) Pickhardt, Jacob (Korbin) Rogers, Samanatha (Ryan) Schwartz, and Tristin Kahl; great-grandchildren Cooper, Sophia, Bravyn, Wylder, and Charlize; twin sister Lucy Dallman; and brother Chuck (Barb) Pickhardt. Dick is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, son Joseph, and sisters Evelyn, Gertrude, and Dorothy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Epiphany of the Lord Parish Waterloo Campus with Fr. Vince Brewer presiding. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Dick will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery following mass.
