Peter J. Niesen

Peter J. Niesen, 77, of Waterloo, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the VA Hospital in Madison.

Peter was born on December 24, 1947, in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of George and Margaret (Coughlin) Niesen. Peter proudly served our country in the United States Navy where he was a POW in the Vietnam War and was a part of the special forces before it was renamed to the Navy Seals. A few years ago, he had the privledge of attending the Honor Flight, which he enjoyed very much. He married the love of his life Deborah Gorder on March 26, 1971, in Hales Corner and the couple enjoyed 53 years of marriage. He was a member of the Deerfield Gun Club and the Waterloo VFW. In his free time, he enjoyed trap shooting and watching the Green Bay Packers. Peter and Debbie owned a candle store that he enjoyed filling the molds and making pottery for the candles. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Peter is survived by his wife Debbie, sons David Niesen and James (Kelly) Niesen, grandchildren Samantha Niesen and Alex Niesen, and his sisters Julie Niesen and Marise Weisemann. He is also survived by number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Karen, and brother George.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Epiphany of the Lord Parish in Waterloo with Fr. Michael Johnson presiding. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church. Military honors will take place at the church following the service.
