Paul R. Schultz

Portland

Paul R. Schultz, “Trapper”, 78 of the Town of Portland, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the Watertown Regional Medical Center, where he was surrounded by his family.

Paul was born on May 16, 1948, in Wisconsin, the son of Henry and Margurite Schultz. Paul served his country in the United States Marine Corps, and he was a proud Marine till the end. He went on to be active in politics and was never afraid to voice his opinions. When he wasn’t working, Paul was an avid outdoorsman, doing everything from hunting, fishing, and especially the trapping that earned him his nickname. He also proudly owned and operated Trapper’s Sportsman’s Supply in Portland and was still selling live bait. He was a lifetime member of the Waterloo Gun Club, which he helped to build. Paul was also active in Ducks Unlimited and several other hunting preservation groups. Above all else, Paul loved his grandkids. Time spent with them was treasured and looked forward to. Paul loved watching his grandson play football on live stream and following along with what each one had going on in their life. He had a great sense of humor, often giving his grandkids nicknames like petunia or buckaroo. Paul also loved his “grand puppies” and was often found guilty of feeding them “people food” when he wasn’t supposed to. He will be deeply missed by many.

Paul is survived by friends, family, and his grandchildren who were very special to his heart: Kendon Krogman, Auvrey Krogman, Jonah Jimenez, Jaxcynn Brenner, and Ainsley Schultz.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s name to the American Legion Waterloo Post or the Marine Corps League Detachment Watertown Chapter would be appreciated by the family.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring and details will be shared at a later date.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Waterloo Fire and EMS, and Watertown Fire Department Paramedics for their care of Paul.
