Mary Cummins

April 26, 1929 — December 1, 2015

Mary Lee Ballard Cummins was born April 26, 1929, in Pavo, Georgia. She went home to the Savior she loved on December 1, 2015, from Rainbow Hospice of Johnson Creek. Mary met David Loyal Cummins in high school at Toccoa Falls Bible Institute in Georgia, and they married June 24, 1950, after she graduated from St. Paul Bible Institute in Minnesota. She served the Lord beside her husband as he pastored in the Midwest and the South and later served with Baptist World Mission of Decatur, Alabama. The two traveled to more than thirty countries for short-term mission ministry. When Mary was not traveling, serving at her church or the mission, or quilting for her grandchildren, she was often working the ground in her garden. Her last years were spent enjoying the activities of campus life at Maranatha Baptist University where she lived with her daughter. Mary is survived by her five daughters: Mary (Gary) Gearhart, Marty (Steve) Love, Miriam (Marty) Marriott, Michal (Terry) McIntosh, and Myra (Jim) Wright, one "adopted" son Scott (Jane) Carson, one "adopted" daughter Susan (Marvin) Stephens, nineteen grandchildren, three "adopted" grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren with three on the way, her sister Helen Hardin Knight, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and sister, Bonnie Calamon. Like the children of the woman in Proverbs 31, her daughters call her "blessed." A memorial service will be held at 11 am Friday, December 4, at Calvary Baptist Church of Watertown with Dr. Fred Moritz preaching. Visitation begins at 10 am Friday, also at Calvary Baptist. Interment will take place in Alabama. Memorial donations may be made to Baptist World Mission or Maranatha Baptist University.
