Joseph J. Freidel

Joseph J. Freidel Jr., 85, of Marshall, died peacefully on Saturday June 17^th at the Sun Prairie Care Center.

Joseph was born at home on August 12,1937 to Joseph J. Freidel Sr. and Dora (Klecker) Freidel.  He graduated from Marshall High School in 1956.  He married the love of his life, Janice Strauss, on August 23, 1956, and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage.  They ran a dairy farm together for many years.  He retired from Royle Printing.  Joe was a huge Green Bay Packers fan.  He also enjoyed woodworking, and crafted unity candle holders for each of his grandchildren.  Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family, and fishing in Canada with family and friends. 

Joseph served on the Marshall Village Board as a Trustee and as Village President.  He also served on the Marshall Community Library Board.  He was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church (now Holy Family Catholic Church) in Marshall.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janice Freidel;  4 children:  Debra (Garry) Fox of Waterloo, Shari (Keith) Minnameier of Poynette, Kerry (Kathy) Freidel of Columbus, and Lisa (Kevin) Hahn of Sarona;  9 grandchildren:  Heather (Bret) Leasure, Barry Fox, Breanna (Jason) Updike, Erick Minnameier, Sean (Carli) Freidel, Ryan (Robyn) Freidel, Colin Freidel, Chris (Michelle) Hahn and Matt (Suki) Hahn, and 9 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way;  sister Doris Welhoefer, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Roger and Karen Strauss.  He was also survived by many nieces and nephews and other family and friends.

Joseph was proceeded in death by his parents, his brothers Lawrence Freidel, Philip (Shirley) Freidel and brother-in-law Jack Welhoefer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday June 23^rd at Holy Family Catholic Church in Marshall with visitation from 10 am to 11 am, and the funeral mass at 11 am.  Burial will be in the Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.
