Hertha E. Sterwald

Hertha E. Sterwald, 92 of Watertown, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Spero Heritage Homes in Watertown.

Hertha was born March 27, 1932, in Watertown, the daughter of Arnold and Hilda (Vehlow) Voss. On October 7, 1950, Hertha married John E. Sterwald at St. John’s Church in Watertown, WI. The couple shared over 70 years of marriage and were a wonderful example to those who knew them of what a good marriage should be. For over 17 years, Hertha worked as an inspector for Durant Manufacturing, now known as Eaton. In her free time, she enjoyed tending to her flowers, gardening and sewing. Hertha and John, along with their family, designed floats for 14 years. The grandchildren were always featured on these floats, and Hertha sewed each of them many costumes. Above all else, Hertha’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

Hertha is survived by: son Quendin (Lana) Sterwald; grandchildren Kevin Sterwald, Kelly (Jake) Biggar, and Katie (Mark) Wiechmann; great-grandchildren Alissa, Alan, Anna, John (Mother: Jodi), Ella, Addison, Mason, Gracie, Faith, Caleb, and Levi. The family extends a special thank you to Sharon Brede for her love and support over the years, and to Spero Heritage Homes and Rainbow Hospice for the loving care provided to Hertha.

Hertha is preceded in death by: her parents; husband John; granddaughter Kari Sterwald; and sisters Doris Reese and one in infancy.

A Funeral Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at the Pederson-Nowatka Funeral Home of Watertown. Hertha will be laid to rest at Emmet Cemetery following the service.
