Herbert C. Johnson, 75 of Watertown, died on Friday, April 28, 2017 at his home with his family.
Herb was born on May 10, 1941 in Madison, WI, the son of Rodney and Clara (Anderson) Johnson. He grew up in on the family farm in Cambridge and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1959. In high school, he played football and basketball. On August 2, 1965, he married Patricia Stock in Dubuque, IA. The couple enjoyed 47 years of marriage, until Pat's death in 2012. Herb purchased A to Z Farm Center of Watertown in 1970 and the family moved from Cambridge in 1972. He owned the business until selling to the Co-op in the early 90's. Herb continued to work there until his retirement in 2013. Herb loved to farm and did so his entire life, farming on Hwy E since 1972. His involvement with anything Ag-related was endless and was an avid supporter of local FFA and 4-H Clubs. Herb was a dedicated and active Mason and Shriner. Herb was the South-Team Representative for the Wisconsin Shrine Bowl for 35 years, earning the Dave McClain Award and was inducted into Wisconsin High School Coaches Hall of Fame. Herb's faith was important and he was devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. In his retirement, Herb cherished time spent with his grandchildren; weather it was at the farm, at their many sporting events, or eating ice cream at Mullen's. He was a helper and never passed an opportunity to be a blessing to people. He loved to mentor people from all walks of life and sponsored several children to the Shrine Hospital. Herb was a special man and will be missed by all who knew him.
