Helen R. Stern, 87, of Ashippun, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Lake Country Health and Rehab Center in Oconomowoc.
Helen was born on June 3, 1929 in Sugar Island, WI, the daughter of Martin & Erna (Braunschweig) Pankow. Helen married Howard C. Stern on March 29, 1952 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sugar Island and the two enjoyed 59 years of marriage together until his death in 2011. Helen and Howard worked and raised their children on their family farm in Ashippun, WI. Helen's faith was central in her life and she was a lifelong active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sugar Island. Helen will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her three children, Caryl (Gary) Watterson of Oconomowoc, Debra (Francisco Rios) Stern of Bellingham, WA and James (Susan) Stern of Sullivan; six grandchildren Tara, Ryan, Bretta, Zekial, Marc and Natalia; two great-grandchildren Eleanor and Henry. Helen is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Howard; her parents; one sister; and three brothers.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday March 23, 2017 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sugar Island with the Rev. Dan Helwig presiding. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 1:00PM until the time of service. Burial will be held in the church cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Lake Country Health and Rehab Center in Oconomowoc for the friendship and loving care they provided.
