Gregory N. Merkt, 70 of Watertown, went to be with his Heavenly Savior on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at his home.
Greg was born on April 28, 1945 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of Joseph and Myrtle (Pope) Merkt. He worked as a Welder/Inspector for WE Energies for over 30 years before his retirement in 2009. He married Jo Ellen Mayer on April 22, 1976 in West Bend, WI. The couple had 5 sons and a daughter. He was an avid hunter, treasuring time spent outdoors in God's Creation. Greg loved designing and welding one of a kind deer stands for his family and friends. Above all other interests, he was grateful for his Internal Salvation, sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with all he came in contact with.
Survivors include: his beloved Wife Jo Ellen Merkt of Watertown; Daughter Lisa of Mountain, WI, Sons Gregory Jr. of Gillett, WI, Joseph (Rebecca Hull) of Watertown, Benjamin (Amy) of Hustisford, Caleb of Watertown; 11 Grandchildren; 9 Great-Grandchildren; Brother Richard (Penny), Sisters Jeannie Jaeger, Kathy (Bob) Kougl, Donna Suring, and Mary (Tom) Roberts. Greg is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Greg is preceded in death by: his parents, Son Anthony, and Brothers Robert and David.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00PM on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church of Watertown with the Rev. Dr. Robert J. Loggans presiding. Visitation will be from 5:00PM until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place at 12:00PM on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Mountain Cemetery of Mountain, WI.
