Eric S. Quanbeck, 54, of Waukesha, formerly of Watertown, passed away on July 2, 2026, after battling with a recent diagnosis of stage IV metastatic melanoma.
Eric was born on July 12, 1971, in Racine, Wisconsin, the son of David and Anita (Buncis) Quanbeck. Eric excelled as a scholar-athlete at Watertown High School before going on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from UW-Madison, carrying on the proud Badger tradition of the Quanbeck family. After college, Eric worked as a chemical engineer in the petroleum refinery construction industry at Fluor corporation, living in both Greenville, SC and Houston, TX.
Eric was an avid golfer whose talent and dedication earned him the title of club champion at the Watertown Country Club not just once, but twice (1994 and 2004). This accomplishment speaks to his competitive spirit and love for the game. Eric had a brief professional golf career on the Moonlight Tour in central Florida. Beyond the green, Eric enjoyed movies and music, filling his days with creativity and appreciation for the arts. He was a lifelong reader, writer, inventor, and deep thinker, whose creative musings included ideas for a new national golf league and a portable, lost-cost air conditioning system. His passion for cooking was known to those closest to him; he made the best Yorkshire pudding and homemade Caesar salad dressing, and he attributed its perfection to his knowledge of emulsification via chemical engineering. Eric was an enthusiastic supporter of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Wisconsin Badgers. Eric loved pets, especially his golden retriever Barney and cat Kitty. Eric was a lifelong Christian. Eric loved to ski and longed to return to the mountains of Colorado.
Eric is survived by his brothers, Cameron Quanbeck, Chris Quanbeck, and Andrew Quanbeck; sisters-in-law Laura Quanbeck and Jamie Quanbeck; and his nieces and nephews, Emma, Luke, Hanna Quanbeck, and Graham and Alexandra Quanbeck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Anita Quanbeck.
