JOHNSON CREEK / WATERTOWN - Elaine Mae Uhlmann, 88, passed away Aug. 20, 2012, following a life of giving generously to her many loved ones. Elaine's nurturing spirit was exceeded only by the kindness she exhibited to all who knew her.
Elaine was born May 31, 1924, to Arnold and Alice Garlock in Fort Atkinson, Wis., where she lived with her parents on Riverside Drive. She graduated from Fort Atkinson H.S. in 1942 and was employed at Moe Lighting in Fort Atkinson after high school.
She was introduced to her future husband, Artie, in the fall of 1946 and the two were married July 24, 1948, in Watertown, Wis. That union resulted in two children, Sherry in 1950 and Rick in 1952.
Elaine and Artie raised their family in Johnson Creek and she worked nearly 30 years at Johnson Controls in Watertown, retiring in 1986.
Elaine was a loving wife, who was patient and forgiving. As a mother, Elaine was a huge fan of Sherry and Rick and supportive of all their endeavors as children and adults. Perhaps Elaine's most endearing quality was her selfless nature, always putting the interests and welfare of others before herself.
Elaine spent much of her later years with Artie building new friendships with other retirees at their second home at Pineland Campground in Adams County. Much of her retirement was also spent doing crafts, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by a daughter, Sherry (Michael) Klecker of Watertown and Winter Haven, Fla., a son Rick (Jean) Uhlmann of Oregon, Wis.; grandchildren Troye (Dawn) Klecker of Jefferson; Ben (Kelly) Uhlmann of Bath, Mich.; Matt (Alexandra) Uhlmann of Evansville and Caitlin Uhlmann of Century City, Calif.; Randi Calzavara of Albion, Wis., and Justin Calzavara of East Troy, Wis.; great grandchildren, Colton and Ginny Klecker and Mya, Ethan, Carter, Bradlee and Brittyn Uhlmann.
Elaine was preceded in death by Artie in 2011, her parents, stepmother Esther Garlock, and granddaughter, Vicki Lynn Klecker.
Funeral services will be at St. John's Lutheran Church, 129 N. Watertown, St., Johnson Creek on Monday, Aug. 27 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30-11 a.m. on Aug. 27.
