E. Jerry Van Holten, 89 of Waterloo, quietly passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015 after a very short illness at London Lodge of Cambridge.
Jerry was born on November 4, 1925 in Milwaukee, the son of Earl G. and Lillian (Heule) Van Holten. He was a graduate of Wauwatosa High School. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Food Technology. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Marine Corps stationed in Okinawa and Yokahama, Japan. After the war he married the love of his life, Ruth Wilcox. He worked for J.G. Van Holten and Son, Inc. until his retirement as CEO of the company in 1990.
Jerry was an active member of Waterloo United Methodist Church, the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and Waterloo Lions Club. He delivered Meals on Wheels and helped operate the Waterloo Carousel. He was a member of the Lake Ripley Country Club and truly enjoyed golf as a life-long sport. He also enjoyed playing poker and bridge, loved to fish, listen to classical music and travel.
Jerry is survived by: his son Dale (Cheryll) Van Holten of Waterloo, daughter Bonnie (David) Jackson of Pomfret, MD; grandchildren Josh Van Holten, Chris (Rachel) Jackson and Andrew Jackson.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of London Lodge and Rainbow Hospice for all the tender loving care that was provided the last few years of his very full life.
A memorial service will be held at 2PM on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Waterloo United Methodist Church with Rev. Jan Beutin presiding. Visitation will be from noon until the time of service at the church.
