Dr. Martin "Marty" Marriot

June 24, 1953 — April 20, 2026

Watertown

Dr. Martin “Marty” Marriott was called to his eternal reward on April 20, 2026, after a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. He was 72 years old. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, pastor, and educator, Dr. Marriott devoted his life to the service of God and others.

Born on June 24, 1953, Marty recognized his need for a Savior and through faith in Jesus Christ was born again on November of 1973. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Watertown, Wisconsin, and enrolled at Maranatha Baptist Bible College, where he pursued his calling to ministry. It was there that he met Miriam Cummins, daughter of Pastor David and Mary Cummins. The two were united in marriage on June 26, 1976, beginning a partnership in life and ministry.

Together, Marty and Miriam planted Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Tennessee. Dr. Marriott later served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. The Lord then directed the Marriotts back to Oak Ridge for a season of rebuilding, before calling them to Faith Baptist Church in Warren, Michigan. During his tenure at Faith, the church experienced significant spiritual growth, numerous conversions, and ultimately planted Faith Baptist Church of Macomb Township.

In 2009, Dr. Marriott returned to his alma mater, Maranatha Baptist University, where he served with great distinction as President until 2023. He then served as Chancellor from 2023 until the time of his promotion to glory. His leadership marked a transformative era for the institution he loved.

Dr. Marriott is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Miriam (Cummins) Marriott; his three children: Rebecca Brock (husband Bryan, and children Brad, Kate, Grant, and Jane), Rachel Roberts (husband Josh, and children William, Anne, Emma, and Jackson), and David Marriott (wife Emiley, and children Ellery, Keandre, Zahra, and Zion); his mother, Roberta Hawkins of Cincinnati, Ohio; and his brother, Dr. Randy Marriott (wife Lynda) of Kettering, Ohio. The Marriott family rejoices that Marty is now reunited with his father, Stacy Marriott, and his sons who died in infancy.

The family wishes to express Dr. Marriott’s deep gratitude to the many members of the Watertown community — including the Maranatha family, Calvary Baptist Church, and many in the medical field — who supported him faithfully throughout his illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Maranatha to invest in the next generation of church leadership.

Funeral service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 792 Milford St. Watertown, WI, at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 24, 2026. Visitation will be held at the church from 4-7pm on Thursday and on Friday from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Burial will take place at Maranatha Baptist University.

All whose lives were touched by Dr. Marriott are warmly invited to attend.
