Dorothy Hartwig

August 20, 1936 — January 25, 2017

Dorothy M. Hartwig, 80 of Johnson Creek, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at UW Hospital of Madison.
Dorothy was born on August 20, 1936 in Jefferson, WI, the daughter of Walter and Dorothy (Koch) Schloesser. She was 1954 graduate of Jefferson High School. On April 11, 1959, she married John Hartwig at St. John's Lutheran Church in Jefferson. Soon after marriage, the couple settled by his family in Johnson Creek. Dorothy chose to be a stay-at-home mom and was the bookkeeper/treasurer with John Hartwig Motor Sports, the family business. She worked at the business until October 2016, when she broke her hip.
Through the years, she spent countless hours watching her husband race Midget Cars all over the Midwest. She enjoyed baking and cake decorating, making several wedding and birthday cakes for family and a number of friends. She especially enjoyed making her cutout cookies and sharing that recipe with her grandkids at Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. When her children were in elementary school, she made gingerbread letter cutouts cookies (and decorated them) for all of her children's classmates to use as Christmas ornaments. She loved flowers, even though she didn't have a sense of smell and Dorothy looked forward to Friday Night Fish with her husband. She enjoyed watching the Badgers, Packers and rarely missed watching the WIAA State Basketball Tournament. Although she never swung a golf club, she enjoyed watching golf on television not because of the sport, but for the beauty of the course. Dorothy was a long-time and active member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church of Farmington and she will me dearly missed.
She is survived by: her Husband John; her Children John (Amy) of Fort Atkinson, Julie (Don) Chapin of Eau Claire, and Jane (Paul) Schmidt of Johnson Creek; Grandchildren Elise, Claire, Haden, Emilie, Cohen; Special Niece Linda Olson of Sparta; Siblings Vivian (John) Block of Watertown, Sally Schloesser of Watertown, JoAnn (Jim) Schultz of Jefferson, and Charles (Shirley) Schloesser of Fort Atkinson. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Sister Betty Procknow, and Brother James.
Memorials in Dorothy's honor to Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church of Farmington would be appreciated.
