Donald Grueneberg

Donald L. Grueneberg, 76, of Waterloo, passed away on January 17, 2018 at Watertown Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

Donald was born on September 21, 1941 in Madison, Wisconsin the son of Lester and Lila (Miller) Grueneberg. He graduated from Madison West High School in 1960. After graduating high school, Don faithfully served his country in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1964. He married his loving wife Gloria “GG” Klug-Ward on May 12, 1984 in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and the two enjoyed 33 years of marriage together. Don worked as a Steamfitter for Union Local #394, retiring in 1996. Don loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed going on long Harley rides with them. His family remembers him as a jack of all trades and a master of none! He was good with his hands and his hands were always busy. He built wood furniture for his family, made his own wine, and kept a garden. For leisure, he liked to play cards and he kept a meticulous journal for the past 10 years. Don also had a sweet tooth; he especially enjoyed a good Tootsie-Roll Pop or a Starlight Peppermint. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Don is survived by: his Wife, Gloria; three Daughters, Tamara (Steve) Belanger, Theresa Ulam, and Dawn Joles; Son, James (Patty Harder) Grueneberg; a very special Step-Daughter, Raenette (Tom) Tempel; a Sister, Patricia (David) Richter; Brothers-in-Law, Larry Albrecht, and Wesley (Jane) Klug; Sisters-in-Law, Anita Kasten and Carolyn (Robert) Hoffman; 13 Grandchildren; and 10 Great-Grandchildren. Don is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and other friends.

He is preceded in death by: his Parents, Parents-in-Law, Sister-in-Law Elaine Albrecht, and Brother-in-Law, Walter Kasten.

A Memorial Service will be held in Don’s honor on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo at 11:00AM with the Rev. Robert W. Kosky Jr. presiding. A visitation will be held from 9:00AM until the time of service at the church.
