David K. Egan passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek.
Dave was born on April 7, 1943, in New London, WI, the son of Kenneth Egan and Nora Egan (Sexton). He was raised on a dairy farm and was the oldest of seven siblings. He remained a farmer at heart his entire life. He left the farm at age 14 to pursue the spiritual calling of the priesthood at Sacred Heart seminary. He studied there for six years but ultimately decided in favor of a future life as a husband and father.
Dave attended the University of Wisconsin—Madison, where he earned both a degree in agriculture science and the hand of the love of his life, Cathy Egan. He was the first from his family to obtain a college degree.
Dave joined the Army Reserves in 1968. He served for 35 years with distinction and honor. He was an extraordinary leader and retired with the rank of Colonel.
Dave’s civilian career varied through the years. He began in agriculture-related sales in the early years. He later transitioned to a combination of farm and residential real estate sales, farm auctions, residential home construction, and farm appraisals—often juggling several of these at the same time to provide for his family. Near the end of his career, he started his own successful real estate company. He was an acute and ethical businessman and an extraordinarily hard worker.
Dave’s proudest achievement was his family. He was a loving and engaging father of four and a wonderful provider. He enjoyed attending his kids’ sporting events, camping, fishing, hunting, travel, reading, back-road drives in the countryside, yard work on his beloved river-front home, and just relaxing on the deck on a summer evening.
Dave is predeceased by his beloved daughter, Annie Egan. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Egan (Henning) of Watertown, WI, and his children: Tom (daughter-in-law Mickie, granddaughter Olivia) of New London, WI, Mike (Jenny, grandchildren Emily, Lizzie (Jake and great grandson Owen), Aedan of Belgium, WI, and Colleen (Bruce, grandchildren Katie (Marco and great grandson Parker), Bryan (Mimi and great-granddaughter Nora), and Connor of Sussex, WI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, June 20, 2025, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church with Fr. David Drefcinski presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. The burial will follow the service at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the entire team at Rainbow Hospice. Their expert and loving care was a great comfort to Dave and his family when they needed it most.
Memorials in Dave's name to the St. Bernard's Cemetery Association or to Rainbow Hospice Care would be appreciated by the family.
