David J. Block, 85 of Watertown, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Park Terrace of Watertown.
David was born on August 16, 1939, in Watertown, the son of Theodore (T. C.) and Vera (nee Benninger) Block. David was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and attended elementary school there as well. After he attended Northwestern College Preps for high school, David went to the University of Wisconsin in Madison, earning a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and later University of Oklahoma to earn his Master of Business Administration. Following college, David enlisted in the United States Army and faithfully served his country until 1963. David had a long career in business administration, eventually retiring after 38 years from Associated Bank (formerly First Financial Savings). A man of strong conviction, David’s faith was a large part of his life, and he was a life-long Lutheran and a Charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. In his spare time, David could often be found on his bicycle, travelling over 13 miles each day when he was able and organizing group bike trips with his sister Edith. He was a member of the Watertown Auto Club and enjoyed participating in car shows. The highlight of David’s year was driving his classic cars in the fourth of July parade in Watertown followed by a large picnic hosted at his home. David was active in the Kiwanis Club and enjoyed gathering with his friends and family. He kept his passport very active and liked to travel in both the United States and internationally, but especially in his home state to Door County. David was a kind and generous man who was a very active member of his community, and he left a lasting impact on all those he met.
David is survived by: brother Robert (married to Bonnie nee Bogenschneider) of Madison; two nephews Timothy living in Princeton, NJ, and Stephen living in Verona; a great nephew, Theo; and a great niece, Kallie. David is also survived by a number of other relatives and many friends.
