Lloyd Adam Hohenstein entered eternal life on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Heritage Homes in Watertown.

He was born August 18, 1934, to Immanuel and Dorothy (Currier) Hohenstein in Hutchinson, MN.  He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, Loretto, MN.  He attended Mantorville Elementary School for six years and then stayed two years with his paternal grandparents so he could attend Salem Lutheran School in Loretto.  It was there that he was encouraged by a teacher to attend Dr. Martin Luther High School, New Ulm, MN.  He graduated from Northwestern College, Watertown, WI; it was there that he met his future bride, Virginia Pfeiffer; they were married August 3, 1958, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Oconomowoc, WI.  Lloyd graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 1959, after which he was ordained and installed as pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Pickett, WI, and had the privilege of baptizing his first child, Ann, in the same service that day.  He also served in churches at Ridgeville and Norwalk, WI, and Gibbon and Lake City, MN.  For seventeen years, Lloyd served as the WELS institutional pastor, sharing the comfort of God’s Word at hospitals and prisons in the Twin Cities area.  He retired in 2005, after which he relocated to Watertown, WI.  He became a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where he assisted with shut-in visitations.  Lloyd also taught Bible classes at Bethesda group homes and Jefferson County Prison.  He was an avid family historian, statistician and book collector, loved his crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and cherished every family gathering with his children and grandchildren.  Throughout his life, he amazed everyone with his incredible memory.

Survivors include: Wife Virginia; Children Ann (Todd) Kuehl, Jonathan (Anna), Rebecca (Carmen) Behm, James (Helen) and Deborah (James) Kumbier; 20-Grandchildren Joshua (Heidi), Laura, Sarah (Srijan), Joseph, Jason, Dorothy (Matthew), Daniel (Elizabeth), David, James (Kaitlin), Benjamin (Angela), Charles, Alexander (Emily), John, Peter, Jordan (Lexie), Kathryn, Hannah, Olivia, John and Jesse; 7-Great Grandchildren Alexander, Harmony, Samuel, Elise, Amelia, Audrey and Ivy; Daughter-in-law Joan; Sister Dolores Adams. He is also survived by a number of nieces, other relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents and Son David.  Memorials in Lloyd’s name may be made to St. Mark’s Ev. Lutheran Church or The Wartburg Project (for Bible translation).

Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, March 2, 2018, at St. Mark’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Watertown, with the Rev. Karl Walther presiding.  Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.  Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery.
