Jerome E. “Butch” Behm, 84 of Waterloo was called home to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at his home.
Butch was born on December 26, 1934 in the Town of Waterloo, the son of William and Mildred (Meitner) Behm. Jerome married the love of his life Marion Salzwedel on September 18, 1955 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Deerfield and the couple enjoyed 57 years of marriage before her passing in 2013. Butch proudly served our country in the United States Army for 3 years. He then worked on his family farm for over fifty years, his passion was farming, and he loved the land and enjoyed the nature that God had created. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, participating in antique tractor pulling, later in life woodworking, and spending time with his family and friends. Butch had a wonderful sense of humor, he never complained, and enjoyed helping others. Butch will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to have known him.
Butch is survived by his daughter Faye (Richard) Veith of Lake Mills, son Doug (Theresa Ulam) Behm of Waterloo, and seven grandchildren: Zachary; Rachel; Seth; Sarah; Hannah; Matthew; Samantha, and special friend Joan Hyer. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Marion, brothers William, Robert, Lester, Howard, Kenny, and Gerald and sisters Margaret, Ruth, and Arlene.
A funeral service for Butch will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 11:00am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Deerfield with Pastor Paul Scharrer presiding. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 4-7pm and also on Wednesday from 10:00am until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow the service at Newville Cemetery in Lake Mills.
